The Art of Music

I’m Joel Reid, a professional musician and music teacher based in Vancouver. I started playing saxophone at 13, and my passion for music eventually led me to study Jazz Studies and Saxophone Performance at Capilano University.

I’ve been teaching music for over 15 years in public and private schools, music schools, online, and through my own programs. I’ve taught individual lessons, led elementary school bands, and created 10-week music programs for students of different ages and experience levels.

As a professional musician, I’ve also performed throughout Vancouver in corporate, rock, jazz, and other musical settings. Along the way, I’ve developed as a multi-instrumentalist, with experience in saxophone, guitar, piano, songwriting, and music theory.

My approach to teaching is relaxed, personal, and encouraging. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable exploring music and developing at their own pace. Influenced by the Montessori method, I see my role as a guide—helping students discover their interests, build confidence, and develop the skills to become independent musicians.
